Dr. Prashanth Kumar

Prashanth Kumar, MD

Chief of Staff, Providence St. Mary Medical Center

Dr. Kumar is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology and Medical Director Acute Hemodialysis program at High Desert Nephrology. His nephrology practice spans the entire kidney care continuum and embraces a philosophy anchored in patient collaboration and prevention. Having practiced in the High Desert of Southern California for nearly two decades, he is focused on improving the standard for care delivery in CKD and ESRD management, including ICU-level dialysis care for the surrounding rural and underserved populations.

An active leader in physician and medical staff affairs within the hospitals in his community, Dr. Kumar serves as Chief of Staff at Providence St. Mary Medical Center and participates in several hospital-based peer review, quality and medication safety committees.

Dr. Kumar received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Medical Center. Dr. Kumar also recently received his MPH from the University of Michigan School of Public Health in Population Health with a focus on Health Behavior and Health Education.”

Paul Komenda, MD

Dr. Paul Komenda, Professor of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, is a fellow of the
American Society of Nephrology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada and has extensive clinical and academic experience. He gained his medical qualification in 2001 from the University of Manitoba and is a board-certified Nephrologist. Dr. Komenda studied health economics and has his Masters in Health Administration from the University of British Columbia. He is a former founder and Medical Director of a large home hemodialysis program at the Seven Oaks General Hospital in Manitoba.

Dr. Komenda holds several million dollars in National funding and has published about 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts in health services research and clinical nephrology, with specialist knowledge and interest in the field of home dialysis, CKD epidemiology, and health economics.

He has served on the Scientific Advisory Board of NxStage Medical and currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Quanta Dialysis Technologies bringing novel patient-oriented hemodialysis devices to market. He is on the Medical Advisory Board for Monogram Health and has been an advisor to several med tech startups.
